Takayasu arteritis

Granulomatous inflammation of the media and adventitia of large elastic arteries.

  • F:M 10:1 (i.e. Asian women)
  • Typically affects thoracic vessels, most common left subclavian artery, also pulmonary arteries
  • Thickened vessel walls with smooth long segment stenosis and occlusion
  • Elevated SED rate


Angiographically similar to Giant Cell Arteritis, but young population verus older.
