CT Findings

  • Dilated fluid filled loops
  • Thickened walls
  • Enhancement of mucosa
  • IVC measuring < 9mm in AP diameter (measured at the level of renal veins)
  • Relatively normal colon

Should be distinguised from diffuse small bowel edema accompanying central venous hypertension (aggresive resuscitation), small bowel ischemia secondary to vascualr occlusion and diffuse small bowel injury.
