- Malignant tumor of primitive neural crest cells
- Most common extracranial solid malignancy in children
- Third most common pediatric malignancy
- Commonly arises from adrenal gland but can arise anywhere along sympathetic chain
- Surrounds and engulfs, rather than displaces vascular structures
- MIBG uptake related to catecholamine production (70%)
- Osseous metastasis with predilection for cranial sutures
- Peak age at presentation is 22 months (versus 3.6 years for Wilms tumor)
- 70% have metastasis at presentation
- Often has calcifications
