  • Common, usually self-limited medical disease
  • Can also be caused by Hep A, Hep B, cytomegalovirus, rubella, toxoplasmosis, alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency, familial recurrent cholestasis, or other metabolic disorders
  • Premedication with phenobarbital is essential


Initially differential in this case was neonatal hepatitis and biliary atresia, with normal follow-up study 1 month later confirming neonatal hepatitis.
