Meckel diverticulum

- 2 feet of ileocecal valve
- 2 inches in length
- 2% are symptomatic
- 2 types of common ectopic tissue (gastric and pancreatic)
- 2 years old is the most common age at clinical presentation
- Males are 2 times as likely to be affected
- Two main complications in adults
- Diverticulitis (20%) as in this case
- Intestinal obstruction (40%).
- Children present with painless rectal bleeding
- Positive on Meckel scan only if contain gastric mucosa (~50%)
