Jones Fracture

  • Jones fracture is at the base of the 5th metatarsal, 1-2 cm distal to the tuberosity
  • Avulsion fractures can be caused by pull on the peroneus brevis
  • Important to differentiate, becasue treatment is conservative for avulsion while often surgical for Jones fracture
  • An unfused apophysis can mimic an avulsion injury but is in a longitudinal direction
