Germinal matrix hemorrhage
The germinal matrix is a highly vasacular structure with poor capillary support and is present at < 35 weeks, vulnerable to ischemic injury.
Grade I - bleeding confined to periventricular area (germinal matrix)
Grade II - intraventricular bleeding (10-50% of ventricular area on sag view)
Grade III - intraventricular bleeding (>50% of ventricular area or distends ventricle)
Grade IV - intraparenchymal echodensity (IPE)
